Embryo Adoption
A Life Affirming Choice
Embryo Adoption is a new alternative to adoption that allows adopting couples to experience the joys of pregnancy and childbirth.
What is embryo adoption: Embryo Adoption is a loving choice that allows couples to adopt “waiting” embryos that have been created through another couple’s in vitro fertilization process. When a couple has completed their IVF treatment, often, remaining embryos are left in waiting while the couple decides how to proceed. With those remaining embryos, the couple may choose to donate them to scientific research, dispose of them, keep them frozen at a fertility clinic, or donate them to a deserving family. Many IVF couples choose to give life to their remaining embryos by donating them to another couple for family building; this is called Embryo Adoption!
Adopting Parents: For an adopting couple, embryo adoption means the possibility of carrying a pregnancy to term and knowing their child through development. Like any other adoption, a completed homestudy is required of the adopting parents to ensure that embryos are given to a loving family. Once the homestudy is complete and the adopting couple is matched, the adopting couple will receive medical health history, and an assortment of information from the family who’s donating the embryos. Legal contracts are created and the embryos are then transferred to the adopting mother at a local fertility clinic.
Waiting Embryos: It has been estimated that there are over 500,000 living embryos in the United States waiting to be developed.
